Include xml files as application files and not data files in ClickOnce - msbuild

By default ClickOnce will include all .xml files as data files. This results in the xml files are deployed in a data directory and not in the application directory.
Is there a way to generate the manifest from MSBuild/Mage that will include xml files as application files viz., not add the writeable="applicationData" attribute.

You could try adding the XML files to the project and within their properties change:
[DELETED]
EDIT: Here's the information on changing the publish status of the file (with some modifications):
With a project selected in Solution Explorer, on the Project menu, click Properties.
Click the Publish tab.
Click the Application Files button to open the Application Files dialog box.
In the Application Files dialog box, select the XML file.
In the Publish Status field, select Include from the drop-down list.

Can you just embed them as a resource in an assembly?

Open file with registered filetype in a different editor

I have a project with *.ts files.
In one folder these files are TypeScript files.
In another folder it's TypoScript files.
The filetype *.ts is registered to the TypeScript Editor.
Is it possible to open a *ts file and force it to a different editor? In this case it would be the TypoScript Editor.
The only workaround i see is to rename the TypoScript files to *.tsc or *.t3s.
TypeScript files with the *.ats file ending will not be compiled from the internal TypeScript compiler.
I am using intelliJ 15.
You can do it by right click on folder or file by using 'External Tools'
In setting search for External Tools.
then add the editor or application you want open file by adding the location of application or editor
This picture shows how to add applications
Then right-click on any file or folder select External Tools then your application

How do I publish specific files not in project in VS 2010?

Is there a way I can publish *.ascx files without adding them to my project?
I am trying to make my user controls in Visual Studio 2010 reusable. I have a project containing my user controls called ControlsLibrary solution directory. I copy the ascx files to the web directory upon building the project with build events.
I use the command copy "$(SolutionDir)ControlLibrary\*.ascx" "$(ProjectDir)controls\"
This copies the *.ascx files from G:/SolutionDirectory/ControlsLibrary to C:/Inetpub/wwwroot/WebProject/controls
Now when I publish WebProject, the publish does not copy the *.ascx files from C:/Inetpub/wwwroot/WebProject/controls to my website. This is because they are not added to my project.
Is there a way I can publish *.ascx files without adding them to my project?
I know there is a way to publish all files by selecting the option "All files in this project." That includes more files than I want.
Have you considered using the Virtual Path Provider approach? Here's a good article on it: Load Web Forms and User Controls from Embedded Resources.

ASP.NET Server Control - How to add AssemblyInfo file

I've noticed on a few tutorials online that when a new ASP.NET Server Control is added, it automatically includes Properties folder (containing AssemblyInfo.cs) and a References folder.
This works fine for me when creating a C# Server Control, but in VB.NET I just get a template .vb file and a Project file.
Why is this and how can I get an AssemblyInfo.vb file?
AssemblyInfo.vb file is created for every project. By default it is not displayed in the Solution/Project Explorer.
To view this file and others in Visual Studio click Project >> Show All Files menu items.

adding jpegs to vb.net application

i am using itextsharp and creating a PDF with images.
currently the images i am using in the application are on my desktop, but i will need to make an installation file that will put the images in a specified directory on the users computer and be able to call them from the specific directory.
how do i include pictures with my build?
how do i reference the pictures? currently i am using:
Dim jpeg3 As Image = Image.GetInstance(Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.Desktop) & "\2.jpg")
How and where do you add the pictures?
If you simply added them to the project as if they were code files (using "add existing item"), then check the Properties for the file in the solution explorer (Build Action, and Copy To Output Directory are useful), and also the Application Files button/window (under the project settings -> Publish). This is useful for distributing the files along with the application (for both debug and release), deployed in a specific sub-directory.
If you added the files to the project's resource file, you can use them using the My.Resources namespace.

Move files to a specific folder when run the setup file for VB.Net Application

I have created deployment package for VB.Net appolication and it runs fine. When setup is rnning, I want deployment package to move a file from bin folder to other specific folder.
Please suggest, how can I move this file to specific folder.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Yogi
In Visual Studio 2008 setup project,
Select File System on Target Machine and then from Action menu select Add Special folder and then Custom folder. A new folder will apear on left hand side under the "File System on Traget Machine". Add files, into this custom folder, which you want to copy into into specified location,
Now go into the property of this custom folder and set the DefaultLocation where you want to copy files under this custom folder.
Now when you run the setup this file under the custom folder will copy into the specified location which you set in DefaultLocation.
