How to process multiline data filebeat and skip the first line? - filebeat

I am new with ELK , I can send all the data from a file but how can I skip the first line ?
is it also possible to sent every 4 set of lines together multiline ?

monit check file for removed content

I'm trying to check some config, which should contain combination: "^UseBridges".
And i know, that file can be changed after somewhat editing via admin UI, but UI doesn't support feature i need.
So i'm trying to write monit check for it, so it will check config, and if confeg resetted, it will add some needed strings to the end of config.
I've tried next rules:
check file torrc with path "/root/t" if content != '^UseBridges' then alert
and
check file torrc with path "/root/t" if not match '^UseBridges' then alert
Both syntaxes looks correct, but doesn't work the way i expect.
If i remove "!" or "not" - it works as expected. It finds string and execute action.
But if i want to check that removal of string - nothing happens.
What is wrong?

Monit read the content of the file and keep the position of the last line in mind. With the next cycle additional lines are read etc.. If the file size became smaller, Monit start reading from the beginning.
Monit can not find deleted lines, because Monit does not compare file, Monit check the occurrence of a string only.

How to line break in a Maximo automation script print statement

Hi I am writing an automation script in Maximo that fires on a cron task. I am having trouble inserting a line break in my print statement. I have tried '\n' & just adding a print() in between my prints. Neither are working and all my prints are being packed into one line in my log file.
You could instead use the provided log() method on the service implicit variable to achieve the same result. Every call will generate a line in your log file.

Also, if you want more control on the log levels, you can get a logger directly from the Logger API which is basically a Log4J wrapper:

You would then control its log level from the Logging application.
Using the log() method will achieve the correct result. If you also do want to still use print I have found out \n will only work if it is preceded by \r in a Maximo automation script like '\r\n'

With syslog-ng how do you embed regex's in templates

I am converting a rsyslog template to syslog-ng and I cannot find in the syslog-ng docs how to embed regex's in a template. The incoming message body looks like this:
123 1.2.3.4 4.3.2.1:80 someone#somewhere.com US
The original rsyslog template is:

The regex bits in the template parse out the relevant fields in the original message. I can't just dump messages to graylog because we use custom fields. I believe I want to use a template in syslog-ng, but I can't find examples, or even docs, showing how to embed regex's inside a template.
looking at the body of your message, you have the following options:
Parse the message with a csv-parser, using the whitespace as separator character. Note that the csv-parser will not split the IP:port, but you can run another csv-parser on the address (this time with : as separator) to do that. You can find examples for that in the syslog-ng documentation
Alternatively, you can write a custom syslog-ng parser in Python to process this message, and use the standard python string functions to separate the message into words and split the IP:port pair.
Using the csv-parser is probably easier and has better performance.
Also, syslog-ng version 3.13 includes a graylog destination (that's not included in the docs yet, but you can find an example in this blog post Graylog as destination in syslog-ng)

correct way to write to the same file from multiple processes awk

The title says it all.
I have 4 awk processes logging to the same file, and output seems fine, not mangled, but I'm not sure that just redirecting print output like this: print "xxx" >> file in every process is the right way to do it.
There are many similar questions around the site, but this one is particularly about awk and a pragmatic, code-correct way to approach the problem.

Sorry folks, of course I wasn't "just redirecting" like I wrote, I was appending.
No it is not safe.
the awk print "foo" > "file" will open the file and overwrite the file content, till the end of script.
That is, if your 4 awk processes started writing to the same file on different time, they overwrite the result of each other.
To reproduce it, you could start two (or more) awk like this:
awk '{while(++i<9){system("sleep 2");print "p1">"file"}}' <<<"" &
awk '{while(++i<9){system("sleep 2");print "p2">"file"}}' <<<"" &
and same time you monitoring the content of file, you will see finally there are not exactly 8 "p1" and 8 "p2".
using >> could avoid the losing of entries. but the entry sequence from 4 processes could be messed up.

Ok, the > was a typo.
I don't know why you really need 4 processes to write into same file. as I said, with >>, the entries won't get lost (if you awk scripts works correctly). however personally I won't do in this way. If I have to have 4 processes, i would write to different files. well I don't know your requirement, just speaking in general.
outputting to different files make the testing, debugging easier.. imagine when one of your processes had problem, you want to solve it. etc...
I think using the operating system print command is save. As in fact this will append the file write buffer with the string you provide as log. So the system will menage the actual writing process of the data to disc, also if another process will want to use the same file the system will see that the resource is already claimed and will wait for 1st thread to finish its processing, than will allow the 2nd process to write to the buffer.

Reading a text file with SSIS with CRLF or LF

Running into an issue where I receive a text file that has LF's as the EOL. Sometimes they send the file with CRLF's as the EOL. Does anyone have any good ideas on how I can make SSIS use either one as the EOL?
It's a very easy convert operation with notepad++ to change it to what ever I need, however, it's manual and I want it to be automatic.

EDIT. I fixed it (but not perfect) by using Swiss File Knife before the dataflow.
If the line terminators are always one or the other, I'd suggest setting up 2 File Connection Managers, one with the "CRLF" row delimiter, and the other with the "LF" row delimiter.
Then, create a boolean package variable (something like #IsCrLf) and scope this to your package. Make the first step in your SSIS package a Script Task, in which you read in a file stream, and attempt to discover what the line terminator is (based on what you find in the stream). Set the value of your variable accordingly.
Then, after the Script Task in your Control Flow, create 2 separate Data Flows (one for each File Connection Manager) and use a Precedence Constraint set to "Expression and Constraint" on the connectors to specify which Data Flow to use, depending on the value of the #IsCrLf variable.
