Test a large wizard flow / enquiry form with specflow - testing

We are testing a large enquiry form. It's a governmental form, it's large.
It has 5 steps, presented like a wizard, and in step 6 you get an overview what data you entered. Now there are a lot of dependencies, in the step, but also between the steps.
For example
if you choose option 'no' in question 7 in step 1, another two questions come up.
if you choose option 'yes' in question 12 in step 1, another question and textbox come up.
if you choose option 'no' in question 8 in step 1, two extra questions pop up in step 4.
And so on, and on.
So the problem we have is that there is no simple flow. If you want to test step 4, you HAVE to go through step 1,2 and 3, so you have to provide testdata (a lot) also for steps that are needed in this step. So one extra test for step 5 means setting up all the data for step 1,2,3 and 4 too.
If there is new mandatory field in step 1, we have to adjust all the tests to provide a value for that field, otherwise the click 'go to step 2' doesn't work.
Is there a pattern or some other nice way for these kind of forms?

Surrounding Events in KQL or Matching on Multiple Conditions

Coming from a ELK background, Kibana had some nice functionality where you could view surrounding events of any record you wished https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/kibana/current/discover-document-context.html, i.e. view the 5 preceding and 5 proceeding events.
Does something like this exist in the Kusto Query Language?
Edit: I should also mention the requirement for this as I realise it might exist, but within a different form.
I'm looking to find several events that need to have all occurred during a specific time period, i.e. the previous 5 minutes.
Example; if EventID's 1, 2 and 3 show, I'm not interested. However, if 1, 2, 3 and 4 show (within X minutes of each other) then I would like my query to pick this up.
Any hints or tips are appreciated.
It seems that Time Window Join is what I needed - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/data-explorer/kusto/query/join-timewindow

ABAP Program to notify Users X amount of days before user account will be disabled

I'm currently learning ABAP and trying to make an enhancement but have broken down in confusion on how to go about building on top of existing code. I have a program that runs periodically via a background job that disables user accounts X amount of days (in this case 90 days of inactive usage based on USR02~TRDAT).
I want to add an enhancement to notify the User via their email address (result of usr02~bname to match usr21~bname to pass the usr21~persnumber and usr21~addrnumber to adr6 which will point to the adr6~smtp_addr of the user, providing the usr02~bname -> adr6~smtp_addr relationship) based on their last logon date being 30, 15, 7, 5, 3, and 1 day away from the 90 day inactivity threshold with a link to the SAP system to help them reactivate the account with ease.
I'm beginning to think that an enhancement might not be a good idea but rather create a new program and schedule the background job daily. Any guidance or information would be greatly appreciated...
Extract
CLASS cl_inactive_users_reader DEFINITION.
PUBLIC SECTION.
TYPES:
BEGIN OF ts_inactive_user,
user_name TYPE syst_uname,
days_of_inactivity TYPE int1,
END OF ts_inactive_user.
TYPES tt_inactive_users TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF ts_inactive_user WITH EMPTY KEY.
CLASS-METHODS read_inactive_users
IMPORTING
min_days_of_inactivity TYPE int1
RETURNING
VALUE(result) TYPE tt_inactive_users.
ENDCLASS.
Then refactor
REPORT block_inactive_users.
DATA(inactive_users) = cl_inactive_users_readers=>read_inactive_users( 90 ).
LOOP AT inactive_users INTO DATA(inactive_user).
" block user
ENDLOOP.
And add
REPORT warn_inactive_users.
DATA(inactive_users) = cl_inactive_users_readers=>read_inactive_users( 60 ).
LOOP AT inactive_users INTO DATA(inactive_user).
CASE inactive_user-days_of_inactivity.
" choose urgency
ENDCASE.
" send e-mail
ENDLOOP.
and run both reports daily.
Don't create a big ball of mud by squeezing new features into existing code.
From SAP wiki:
The enhancement concept allows you to add your own functionality to SAP's standard business applications without having to modify the original applications. To modify the standard SAP behavior as per customer requirements, we can use enhancement framework.
As per your description, it doesn't sound like a use case for an enhancement. It isn't an intervention in an existing process. The original process and your new requirement are two different processes with some mutual logical part - selection of days of inactivity of users. The two shouldn't rely on each other.
Structurally I think it is best to have a separate program for computing which e-mails need to be sent and when, and a separate program for actually sending them.
I would copy your original program to a new one, and modify it a little bit so that instead of disabling a user, it records into some table for each user: 1) an e-mail 2) a date when to send 3) how many days left (30, 15, 7, etc) 4) status if the e-mail was sent or not. Initially you can even have multiple such jobs for each period (30, 15, 7 etc) and pass it as a parameter (which you use inside instead of 90).
This program you run daily as a job and it populates that table with e-mail "tasks" of what needs to be sent today. It just adds new lines, so lines from yesterday should stay in there.
The 2nd program should just read that table and send actual e-mails and update the statuses. You run that program daily as well.
This way you have:
overview: just check the table to see what's going on
control: if the e-mailer dies or hangs, you can restart it and it will continue where it left off; with statuses you avoid sending duplicate mails
you can make sure that you don't send outdated e-mails if in your mailer script you ignore all tasks older than say 2 days
I want to clarify your confusion about the use of enhancements:
You would want to use enhancements in terms of 'something' happens or is going to happen in the system and you would want to change this standard way.
That something, let's call it event or process could be for example an order is placed, a certain user is logging onto the system or a material has been or is going to be changed.
The change could be notifying another system of an order or checking the logged on user with additional checks for example his GUI version and warn him/her if not up-to-date.
Ask yourself, what process on the system does the execution of your program or code depend on. Does anything need to happen before the program is executed? No, only elapsing time.
Even if you had found an enhancement, you would want to use. If this process using the enhancement would not be run in 90 days, your mails would not be sent, because the enhancement would never been called.
edit: That being said, supposing you mean by enhancement 'building on your existing program' instead of 'creating a new one' would be absolutely not the right terminology for enhancement in the sap universe.
I would extend the functionality of your existing program, since you already compute how many days are left and you would have only one job to maintain.

Azure Dev-Ops Query based suite adds items 3 times

I am creating Test Plans using Query Based Suites and am getting multiple items.
Create a Query based suite with very simple rules -> Run Query
Let's say 6 items are returned. I select all 6 and click "Create Suite"
The Suite that is created has 18 items (each of the 6 items is copied 3 times)
Any ideas how I can get this to stop?
No no no, the issue is it adds it to a different configurations:
So in order to see 1 test instead of 3 you need to click right mouse button on the configuration and un-assign all configs that you don't need.
Where to adjust default settings I don't know :(

Trying to create an APEX Link Column that queries a report

Basically, say I have a report A and I want to add a link column to it, and I set its target to a page in the application...the page its referring to has another report (lets call it B)
Is it possible for me to somehow make it so that table A's link column opens the page with Report B with rows that have the same column value for one of their columns?
Example here:
A
Name Num1 Num2
--------------
A 5 3
B 3 3
C 4 2
B
Name Quantity Serial
--------------------
D 2 3
E 1 8
F 4 6
So if I click the link column for row A, I want it to open report B and only shows rows where its Num2 = Serial, so only row D would show since it is the only one that equals 3
Using Report Linking to Filter Other APEX Report Outputs
I had some fun with this one although. The "A" and "B" stuff was pretty dry, so I decided to create a data set that was more engaging, and perhaps clearer to understand for the rest of us... :) This is how the data-ecosystem was broken down, and the way I fulfilled the OP requirements.
The Test Schema:
Welcome to the manufacturing facilities of the "Recipe Stack" Food Works. The schema design and ERD (Entity Relation Diagram) is below, with the sample data used for this demonstration:
The data relations are as follows:
The staff at the Stack Food-Works keeps an inventory of all ingredients for the types of meals and prepared foods they manufacture. Each ingredient has a unique ID (INGREDIENT_ID) and the staff tracks the amounts of each item in their pantry.
Each ingredient can be used in multiple recipes, but they will be used exactly once for a given recipe.
The ENTREE_RECIPE table has a COMPOSITE KEY which means it is the combination of the two pieces of this composite key (ENTREE_NAME and INGREDIENT_SEQ) that should be unique.
There is a FOREIGN KEY relation between the INGREDIENT_ID values of both tables.
Report Display Requirements (APEX and SQL Design Elements)
Selecting an item from the FIRST report is used as the input and the restriction/filter criteria of the second report.
User Case #1:
User Selects a Ingredient ID from the list of available ingredients in the pantry.
Input from (1) filters output of the RECIPE REPORT. This is a list of all the recipes that have the chosen ingredient in their formula.
User Case #2:
User Selects an ENTREE_NAME from the RECIPE REPORT. The ENTREE_NAME is used to deliver a third report: the RECIPE FORMULA which is the full recipe for the entree item that was selected from the previous report.
Testing Tools
(You usually need these these for the more complex pages, so it's a good start to use or develop them for the easier ones...)
I made my own, but you can also invoke the SESSION link on the developer's tool bar at the bottom of the APEX page on your running application (when it is displayed).
Here's my idea; it's a header region that also has a button to RESET input values so that I can clear the cache and retest or try other examples. I'll show later how you can use this link to see what is going on. You can see it in the discussion of testing at the bottom of this guide.
APEX Report/Page Design and SQL Parametrization
My columnn linking scheme looks similar to the previous post such as the one from FTaveras. This is how my linking works. What's different is that I do not go to another page, I simply go BACK to the same page I came from. Redirects and Branches apparently don't care if they are simply returning to the same location.
What is different on the return trip is that page parameters that were originally null or unpopulated NOW have a value. That value now brings life to the reports on the page that were empty.
Step 1: The PANTRY REPORT
Output: Query all items from the FOOD_SUPPLIES table.
Inputs: Supply links by INGREDIENT_ID to filter the RECIPE_REPORT output.
How to do it: (hint) To accomplish this, define the report column/field value in your report layout design page as a "linked" column and assign its value as a page item. The page item will be referenced in the SQL query of the next report...
Step 2: The RECIPE REPORT
Output: Query all records from the ENTREE_RECIPE table which have the INGREDIENT_ID from Step 1 within their formula.
Input: Supply links by ENTREE_NAME to filter the RECIPE_FORMULA output.
How to do it: (hint) Include the page item defined from Step 1 within the SQL query of this report:
SELECT * FROM entree_recipe
WHERE ingredient_id = :P3_INGREDIENT_ID
Step 3: The FORMULA REPORT
Output: Query all records from the ENTREE_RECIPE table which have the ENTREE_NAME selected from Step 2.
Debug and Test Run
Most will be able to get this far without any problems. If not, here are a couple of examples of how you can debug and test your work. There may be some built-in tools and packages that already exist within Apex, so any suggestions on alternate approaches are welcome in the comments...!
Using the APEX Developer SESSION Output
After selecting the inputs for the trial run, click on the SESSION link on the developer toolbar at the bottom of the page. This is an example output:
Note that the page items that were set for that session are displayed. The inputs I used for this test were:
INGREDIENT_ID: 6432
ENTREE_NAME: peach cobbler (fresh)
Extra Credit: This one is an alternate approach. It may be useful to design something like this as an add-on to any app you design. You do not need to remove it from your app when you push it to production because there is a "conditional display/suppress" feature for page regions. (check it out)
Simply set a global parameter as a "mode" on your Apex app. Set the value to "DEBUG" or "TEST" or whatever and key all your instances of this page region to display only when the global parameter is set to it.
Wrap Up and Discussion
Hopefully, you've enjoyed your visit to the "Stack Food Works" (no tasting or sampling from the line, please).
This has been more of a holistic approach to Apex app design. It helps to have a methodology to map out each step, and a way to check your work at both the beginning and the end of your development process. Using smaller examples like this demo to apply these methods provides a chance to understand Apex development as a Software Creation PROCESS.
Yes it's possible.
On page B, add and hidden Item name for example P(#)_SERIAL where (#) is your current page number.
Modify your query and add one line like AND SERIAL=:P(#)_SERIAL.
On Page A go to "Report Attributes" tab on the report region, click edit.
On the column link section configure your link to page B and set the hidden item on page B to the value on report column of page A.
Name: Item 1 [P(#)_SERIAL] Value: #Num2#

SSRS report takes a long time to appear but is quick to process

EDIT
I was working on a new report and I tried to make a blank one. Even this one takes ~12 seconds to appear. There's clearly something wrong but I'd like to try possible solutions you might have before reinstalling.
My application has a couple of SSRS reports. They're all simple tables listing the data. In the designer's preview tab, they all appear within 1-3 seconds. The SQL queries or Stored procedure they use all execute fast enough. The reports are hosted in a ReportViewer, inside a tabcontrol.
My problem is that most of these reports are going to be generated around 20 times in a row, each with different parameters, and it take a report 12 seconds or more to appear in the actual application, which is a big problem. What could be causing such a slowdown?
Here's a example of the simplest report I have, which still takes way too much time:
**Table Users**
Id uniqueidentifier PK
Name varchar(50)
Salary decimal
TimeInBank decimal
Enabled bit
The table has less than 100 rows, nothing special.
The query:
Select * from Users where Enabled=1
In the execution log, this report has the following statistics:
TimeRendering: 79
TimeProcessing: 54
TimeDataRetrieval: 22
Status: rsSuccess
ByteCount: 5305
RowCount: 7
Nothing seems wrong with these numbers but it still takes at least 12 seconds from the moment I press the button to the moment I can see the report.
If the data in your reports is not changing very often, you could consider caching the reports:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms155927.aspx
You still may want to figure out what the bottleneck is in the first place, but at least the viewers of the report won't have to wait in the meantime.
