In Report Builder 3.0, I want to create a date parameter so that I can have the little calendar and have the end user click the calendar to select a date. However, the data stored in the table is set to 2021-07-08 22:45:38. I tried the TO_CHAR function, but then I can't put the little calendar as the data is not a date anymore.
Is it possible to convert the date time into regular MM/DD/YYYY and still have it be kept as date column so I can create that parameter?
The table is C_LAB, and the date column is LAB_DATE. Like I said, I want to create parameter where user can select the date and have the option to use the calendar as well.
2021-07-08 22:45:38 looks like a perfectly correct DateTime to me. Assuming that the LAB_DATE column datatype is DateTime then you could easily produce a "date only" version with.
SELECT *, CAST(LAB_DATE as Date) AS LAB_DATE2 FROM C_LAB
or if you want to use a date picker on the report and filter the results, the query would just be something like
SELECT * FROM C_LAB WHERE CAST(LAB_DATE as Date) = #myDatePickerParameter

I am reading a file from ADLS location, in that one column Period_Ending_Date is having data type as STRING.
The Period_Ending_Date is having many dates in random order, I need to apply filter to get the latest date.
I'm trying this code:
select * from final_table
WHERE Period_Ending_Date = (SELECT MAX(Period_Ending_Date) FROM final_table)
But the problem is I'm getting the day with maximum, not the latest date. I can understand this is happening because of STRING data type. Please guide me how I can change this column to DATE data type or any other alternative to get the solution of this.
I'm working with Scala and SQL on Azure Databricks.
what about changing SELECT MAX(Period_Ending_Date) FROM final_table to SELECT MAX(cast(Period_Ending_Date as date)) FROM final_table - performing explicit casting to date if date format is ISO8601 (YYYY-MM-DD) or using the to_date function (doc) to convert non-standard dates.
I have over 65 columns among which there are about 30 Date Columnns. I want to set it to MM/DD/YYYY. Presently it is also showing the time YYYY-MM-DD hh:mm:ss. I tried correcting this within the SQL query by using cast. The SQL output shows only date, but it again gets represented in DateTime in SSRS. I dont want to right click on 30 columns manually to set date format. Is there a way to set default date format for all date columns in the report?
"Cast" is not helping here since it is about types, not format.
Try using the "convert" function instead.
In your case, it would be
-- use your field name instead of sysdatetime()
select convert(varchar, sysdatetime(), 101/*mm/dd/yyyy format Id*/);
You should be able to select all the fields in the tablix and change the formatting together. You may wish to consider using a parameter for the formatting.
I'm trying to make a query with SQL Server Management Studio 2017 that brings back a count of all the servers with a projected migration date of this year. I have one query made now, but it's still bringing back some servers with dates from years before.
SELECT MONTH(Projected) as [Month], count(*) as [Total]
FROM dbo.tFake
WHERE Projected >='01/01/2019' AND Projected <='12/31/2019
GROUP BY Month(Projected)
ORDER BY [Month]
Date format is mm/dd/yyyy btw. How can I get this query to bring back just servers that are projected for the year 2019?
Going by the assumption that your data type is wrong, the first step is to fix that.
Note, I am assuming that your data only contains dates, and not time (which your query implies). Firstly, you'll need to change the value of all your rows to an convertible value, we'll go with the ISO format yyyyMMdd:
UPDATE dbo.tFake
SET Projected = CONVERT(varchar(8),CONVERT(date,Projected,101),112);
Now that all the rows are a literal string in the format yyyyMMdd we can alter the column:
ALTER TABLE dbo.tFake ALTER COLUMN Projected date;
Now, we can run your query again, but now your data type is correct, you won't have the problem:
SELECT MONTH(Projected) as [Month], count(*) as [Total]
FROM dbo.tFake
WHERE Projected >= '20190101' AND Project < '20200101' --I prefer the >= and < method. This is especially import with date & time data types
GROUP BY Month(Projected)
ORDER BY [Month];
Notice the literal strings I passed are also in the yyyyMMdd format. If you must pass a literal string in the format MMddyyyy you can wrap in a CONVERT with the style code 101: CONVERT(date,'12/31/2019',101). 101 means the US style date (CAST and CONVERT (Transact-SQL).
Remember, this solution assumes you have date only values, and not date and time values. If you do (have date and time values) you'll want to use an appropriate date and time data type and use the ISO8601 style, instead of the ISO style.
I have a column in my table with Dates in the format yyyy-mm-dd I want to convert all the dates in that column to the format mm/dd/yyyy
I am using the below query
UPDATE Test.dbo.Status
SET DateIn = CONVERT(DATE,DateIn ,101)
The DateIn column is defined as Date in my table (DateIn DATE NULL)
The query does no change to the data. am I doing some thing wrong here?
You can change the default format in which SQL Server displays a date, but you can't alter the way a DATE value is stored via CONVERT(). You can format a date however you want if you store it as a string, but you lose functionality when you do that and it's not advisable. If you are hell-bent on storing a formatted version, you might want to create a new VARCHAR() field so you can preserve your DATE version.
You're better off formatting the date at the application level.
The reason your query does nothing is that the actual DATE values are equivalent. Notice when you take any valid date format and CAST() it as DATE the resulting format is the same regardless of the input:
SELECT CAST('20040510' AS DATE)
SELECT CAST('2004-05-10' AS DATE)
SELECT CAST('May 10, 2004' AS DATE)
All return: 2004-05-10 on my instance of SQL Server.
I am having two textfields which represents startDate and endDate.Now the problem I am facing is that I want all the records from the database which occured between this interval.But the field which stores date is TimeStamp and is of format :
24-APR-14 09.23.44.458000 PM or we can say dd-mm-yy hh.min.ss.milli AM/PM
Now obviously user entering the date is not going to enter it in such a format.So what should be query to select records from table say t1 between this date interval.
Saving Date data as Date or Datetime makes life easy.
You have tagged Mysql in the question so here is a Mysql Solution.
This is what you can do
select * from
test
where
date_format(str_to_date(`date`,'%d-%b-%y'),'%Y-%m-%d')
between '2014-04-15' AND '2014-04-24'
DEMO
You can format the user input as you want in the query in DATE_FORMAT().
User input will have a startdate and a enddate may be in datetime OR date variable
while trying to use these two input variables in the WHERE CLAUSE use BETWEEN CAST(#StartDate AS DATE) AND (CAST(#EndDate AS DATE) + 1)
This will fetch results that lies in both dates and the data range as well
