I have two datatables that comes from different database servers, the first looks like this:
structure from first dataTable
it shows how many clients each salesperson visited in the specified date.
The second dataTable looks like this:
structure of second dataTable
it shows how many customer the saleperson was supposed to visit.
As i said this data comes from two different servers, i need to do something like a join in database with the key fields (SLPRSNID AND DAYOFWEEK) in order to show in a report the compliance percentage of each salesperson.
My report application is made in VB.NET for desktop environment.
Thanks in advance
btw sorry for my bad english
You can use linq to datasets to accomplish what you are looking for, if that is to get the two datatables into one flattened result set. See this for a description and example: Cross Table Query of Datatables
If you want to maintain a relationship for some reason, consider designing a dataset with the two datatables and a data relation to join them. That will create functions to GetChildRows from the parent, and GetParentRow from the children.
Update #1 - Try this to convert your query result into a datatable. Creating a DataTable From a Query
Dim boundTable As DataTable = query.CopyToDataTable()
Found out Merge(DataTable) Method from MSDN. Hope it will solve your problem
Merge()

I'm new to MS Access and am trying to speed up a data gathering process that is taking forever in Powershell. In Powershell I have 10 or so web API calls to get data and each comes back as an object with multiple properties (fields.) Each set of data has related fields to 1 or more of the other sets of data. Getting the data is very quick but piping an array of objects to where-object to select-object takes over an hour and there's really not that much data. Each object contains 500-1500 "records" and 5 to 10 "fields" so I thought why not export that data and use something that's intended to search through data to do the job? I exported each object as a separate .CSV file. So enter MS Access..
I imported each of the CSV's as a separate table (easy enough.) I'm going to simplify this down for this example to the following 3 tables:
[Tables]https://i.stack.imgur.com/UCH1F.jpg
Every table has fields that relate it over to other tables. Pretty much there's some sort of Id field in every table that is related to another Id field in a different table that I need to pull a field called "name" from. I'm trying to follow the bread crumbs from the Player name to it's Network name to it's Application name, to it's Layout name, etc... I want to build a query that I would eventually just be able to export as an Excel file. I also would prefer to just write out the SQL unless it's really easier to to understand the visual query builder. I'm looking to build a sheet with the following information:
Player's Name would include all names from the Players table and getting just that data makes sense to me. SELECT Name AS PlayerName FROM Players Everything else, not so much. I feel like this will end up being some mega query as I get deeper into related table after related table. In Excel, it would be straightforward using Vlookups across tabs but that doesn't seem to be the best approach. Given the info above, I'm trying to achieve the following output:
Result table
Any help with strategy and syntax greatly appreciated!
You're looking for the JOIN clause.
SELECT
Players.Name PlayerName, Networks.Name PlayerNetwork, Applications.Name ApplicationName
FROM
Players
LEFT OUTER JOIN
Networks
ON
Networks.ID = Players.NetworkId
LEFT OUTER JOIN
Applications
ON
Applications.Id = Players.ApplicationID
I'm using Tableau to show some schools data.
My data structure gives a table that has all de school classes in the country. The thing is I need to count, for example, how many schools has Primary and Preschool (both).
A simplified version of my table should look like this:
In that table, if I want to know the number needed in the example, the result should be 1, because in only one school exists both Primary and Preschool.
I want to have a multiple filter in Tableau that gives me that information.
I was thinking in the SQL query that should be made and it needs a GROUP BY statement. An example of the consult is here in a fiddle: Database example query
In the SQL query I group by id all the schools that meet either one of the conditions inside de IN(...) and then count how many of them meet both (c=2).
Is there a way to do something like this in Tableau? Either using groups or sets, using advanced filters or programming a RAW SQL calculated fiel?
Thanks!

PS: I add a link to my question in Tableu's forum because you can download my testing workbook there: Tableu's forum question
I've solved the issue using LODs (specifically INCLUDE and EXCLUDE statements).
I created two calculated fields having the aggregation I needed:
Then I made a calculated field that leaves only the School IDs that matches the number of types they have (according with the filtering) with the number of types selected in the multiple filter (both of the fields shown above):
Finally, I used COUNTD([Condition]) to display the amounts of schools matching with at least the School types selected.
Hope this helps someone with similar issue.
PS: If someone wants the Workbook with the solution I've uploaded it in an answer in the Tableau Forum
Been rattling my brain for a while and I could not get pass how to do the SQL query that will show the relationship/connections between my two tables.
I'm working on an IT equipment inventory program. I have two tables;
SELECT serial_number, model, ship_dat, status FROM items_list
SELECT item_serial, connected-to_serial FROM connections
All items like desktops, laptops, monitors, etc are on the items_list table. To track down the relationship/connections of the items, I created the connections table. IE, Monitor with serial_number=Screen#1 is connected to a Desktop with serial_number=Serial#1. It works ok with my Window Form application because I
used a datagridview control to list all devices simple SQL query.
However, when trying to show the relationship/connection on SQL Reports I've ran out of ideas how to do it. I'm aiming to get the report look like below or something along the lines. I just need to show the connections between the items.
Thank you
You should be able to do this with a table in SSRS if that is what you are using. The query you would need to drive the table of all related items would be:
SELECT item_serial, connected-to_serial, mainItem.*, connectedItem.*
FROM connections
INNER JOIN items_list mainItem ON connections.item_serial = items_list.serial_number
INNER JOIN items_list connectedItem ON connections.connected-to_serial = connectedItem.serial_number
You can of course tailor the SELECT statement to your needs, mainItem.* and connectedItem.* will not give you the most descriptive column names. Using column aliases (found under column_alias here) you can give a more descriptive name to each column.
From here you should be able to use a table and create a row group on the main item (either name or serial number) to get the type of look you are looking to achieve here. I believe the Report Wizard actually has most of the functionality you are looking for and should handle the bulk of this. You may have to move some of the cells around to get the look you are going for though.
I am trying to create a report using two datasets.
The first has a user id which i need to link to the second one to pull the information required. The second dataset query needs the user.id before the query will work Is there anyway i am able to do this.
Thanks
Can you explain your scenario little clear. Are you trying to have a cascaded parameters in SSRS reports? Say, You need to select a Product from the dropdown (Bat, Ball, Nets etc) and depending on the selection another dropdown will be loaded with the relevant data say (For Ball - Basket ball, Volley ball, Foot ball etc)
You will need to create a subreport and from there pass the user id that is returned from the first dataset into the subreports parameter.
If you have not used subreports, here are some articles: (Assuming you are using Crystal Reports)
http://blog.niklasottosson.com/?p=1137
it might be possible I'm searching for the wrong keywords, but so far I couldn't find anything useful.
My problem is quite simple: At the moment I get a list of individual Ids through a report parameter, I pass them to a procedure and show the results.
The new request is like this: Instead of showing the list for all individuals at once, there should be a list for each individual id.
Since I'm quite a beginner in srss, I thought the easiest approach would be the best: Create a subreport, copy the shown list, and create a subreport per individual id.
The amount of this IDs is dynamic, so I have to create a dynamic amount of subreports.
Funny enought, this doesnt seem to be possible. This http://forums.asp.net/t/1397645.aspx url doesnt show exactly the problem, but it shows the limit of the subreports.
I even ran trough the whole msdn pages starting http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd220581.aspx but I couldnt find anything there.
So is there a possibility, to create a loop like:
For each Individual ID in Individual IDs, create a subreport and pass ONE ID to this?
Or is there another approach I should use to make this work?
I tried to create a 'Fake'-Dataset with no sql query but just for iterating the id list, but it seems the dataset needs a data-source...
As usual, thanks so far for all answers!

You didn't provide much detail about what sort of information needs to be included in the subreport, but assuming it's a small amount of data (say, showing a personnel record), and not a huge amount (such as a persons sales for the last year), a List might be the way to go.

All datasets require a data source, though if you're merely hard-coding some fake return data, any data source will do, even a local SQL instance with nothing in it.
