how to get Min values for dimension members? - ssas

I have a cube with few dimensions. Report Date and Account are two of them. One account id may come under multiple Report dates. I need to find minimum report date for every accountid. Any ideas?

Maybe something similar -
WITH SET[MinDate] AS
Head(NonEmpty(
ReportDate.[ReportDate].[ReportDate].MEMBERS,
{(EXISTING [Account].[AccountId].CurrentMember , [Measures].[foo])}
),1)
SELECT [MinDate] ON 1,
[Account].[AccountId].MEMBERS ON 0
FROM [bar]
WHERE [Measures].[foo]
If what you want is the minimum date's value, then you would need to get that in a calculated measure instead of a set.
WITH MEMBER Measures.[MinimumDate] AS
Head(NonEmpty(
ReportDate.[ReportDate].[ReportDate].MEMBERS,
{(EXISTING [Account].[AccountId].CurrentMember , [Measures].[foo])}
),1).ITEM(0).Name

DAX formula calculate dates between first transaction and (first transaction + 6 months)

Background: I have a column in a Customer dimension with a static date(e.g '2013-01-01').
This column is the result of a calculation that gets the first transaction date ever made by that certain customer. This customer dimension is linked to a fact table containing reportdate as a date column linked to a date dimension.
Goal: I want to make a calculated measure that, based on a sum of amount measure, calculates the result based on a given period between start_date(First transaction date), end_date (first transaction date + 6 months).
All i get is "cannot be determined in the current context" warnings and cannot get my head around to fix it.
All help is welcome!
Thanks in advance,
/Blixter
SOLVED I replicated the logic from the calculated measure found in the Customer table.
=CALCULATE([SumAmount];DATESBETWEEN(DimDate[Date];FIRSTDATE(‌FactTable[Reportdate‌]);DATEADD(FIRSTDATE‌(FactTable[Reportdat‌e]);5;MONTH)))

Create MDX to Divide two measures for each month and then sum the all of the months

I have a multidimensional cube that needs a custom measure that I'm not sure how to build.
That data looks like this:
MemberID-----Date-------EventType
1--------------1/1/2016-------1
2--------------1/1/2016-------2
3--------------2/1/2016-------1
2--------------2/1/2016-------2
4--------------2/1/2016-------2
There is a count measure in the cube, but others can be added if needed. I need to create a measure that will use whatever filters the user applies and then count the EventType (1 and 2 only) by month, divide the resulting counts for EventType 1 into the count for EventType 2 (for each month individually), and finally sum the monthly results. For example 1/1/2016 would be 1/1=1 (count of EventType 1 and count of EventType 2) and 2/1/2016 would be 1/2=0.5 so the resulting measure value for the two months would be 1+0.5=1.5. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Let's assume you have a Date dimension with an attribute called Month. And let's assume you have an EventType dimension. And let's assume you have a count measure in your measure group called Cnt. Here's what else you need to do.
First, go to the DSV and add a new calculated column to the fact table which is called NullInt and is the following expression:
cast(null as int)
Then create a new Sum measure in your measure group off that column and call the measure My Rollup. Under the Source property, change NullHandling to Preserve so that it will start off null.
To explain why we're doing this, a scoped assignment to a physical measure will aggregate up. (If you assign a value to a physical measure at the grain of each month, then it will rollup to the grand total.) But a scoped assignment to a calculated measure doesn't roll up.
Then in your MDX script add the following calculations:
scope([Date].[Month].[Month].Members); //calculate at the month level then rollup
[Measures].[My Rollup] = DIVIDE(
([Event Type].[Event Type].&[1],[Measures].[Cnt]),
([Event Type].[Event Type].&[2],[Measures].[Cnt])
);
end scope;
Note that your version of SSAS probably has the DIVIDE function if it's AS2012 with the latest service pack or newer. But if it doesn't, you can always do division the old fashioned way as IIF(denom=0,null,num/denom).

Creating a DAX pattern that counts days between a date field and a month value on a chart's x-axis

I am struggling with a DAX pattern to allow me to plot an average duration value on a chart.
Here is the problem: My dataset has a field called dtOpened which is a date value describing when something started, and I want to be able to calculate the duration in days since that date.
I then want to be able to create an average duration since that date over a time period.
It is very easy to do when thinking about the value as it is now, but I want to be able to show a chart that describes what that average value would have been over various time periods on the x-axis (month/quarter/year).
The problem that I am facing is that if I create a calculated column to find the current age (NOW() - [dtOpened]), then it always uses the NOW() function - which is no use for historic time spans. Maybe I need a Measure for this, rather than a calculated column, but I cannot work out how to do it.
I have thought about using LASTDATE (rather than NOW) to work out what the last date would be in the filter context of any single month/quarter/year, but if the current month is only half way through, then it would probably need to consider today's date as the value from which to subtract the dtOpened value.
I would appreciate any help or pointers that you can give me!
It looks like you have a table (let's call it Cases) storing your cases with one record per case with fields like the following:
casename, dtOpened, OpenClosedFlag
You should create a date table with on record per day spanning your date range. The date table will have a month ending date field identifying the last day of the month (same for quarter & year). But this will be a disconnected date table. Don't create a relationship between the Date on the Date table and your case open date.
Then use iterative averagex to average the date differences.
Average Duration (days) :=
CALCULATE (
AVERAGEX ( Cases, MAX ( DateTable[Month Ending] ) - Cases[dtopened] ),
FILTER ( Cases, Cases[OpenClosedFlag] = "Open" ),
FILTER ( Cases, Cases[dtopened] <= MAX ( DateTable[Month Ending] ) )
)
Once you plot the measure against your Month you should see the average values represented correctly. You can do something similar for quarter & year.
You're a genius, Rory; Thanks.
In my example, I had a dtClosed field rather than an Opened/Closed flag, so there was one extra piece of filtering to do to test if the Case was closed at that point in time. So my measure ended up looking like this:
Average Duration:=CALCULATE(
AVERAGEX(CasesOnly, MAX(DT[LastDateM]) - CasesOnly[Owner Opened dtOnly]),
FILTER(CasesOnly, OR(ISBLANK(CasesOnly[Owner Resolution dtOnly]),
CasesOnly[Owner Resolution dtOnly] > MAX(DT[LastDateM]))),
FILTER(CasesOnly, CasesOnly[Owner Opened dtOnly] <= MAX(DT[LastDateM]))
)
And to get the chart, I plotted the DT[Date] field on the x-axis.
Thanks very much again.

How to Calculate Sum untill start of month of a given date in DAX

I would like to calculate Sum(QTY) until the start date of the month for a given date.
Basically I can calculate Sum(QTY) until given date in my measure like:
SumQTYTillDate:=CALCULATE(SUM([QTY]);FILTER(ALL(DimDateView[Date]);DimDateView[Date]<=MIN(DimDateView[Date])))
But I also would like to calculate Sum(QTY) for dates before 10/1/2015 - which is the first date of selected Date's month. I have changed above measure and used STARTOFMONTH function to find first day of the month for a given date like;
.......DimDateView[Date]<=STARTOFMONTH(MIN(DimDateView[Date]))))
but not avail, it gives me
"A function ‘MIN’ has been used in a True/False expression that is
used as a table filter expression. This is not allowed."
What am I missing? How can I use STARTOFMONTH function in my measure?
Thanks.
STARTOFMONTH() must take a reference to a column of type Date/Time. MIN() is a scalar value, not a column reference. Additionally, your measure wouldn't work, because STARTOFMONTH() is evaluated in the row context of your FILTER(). The upshot of all this is that you would get a measure which just sums [QTY] across the first of every month in your data.
The built in time intelligence functions tend to be unintuitive at best. I always suggest using your model and an appropriate FILTER() to get to what you want.
In your case, I'm not entirely sure what you're looking for, but I think you want the sum of [QTY] for all time before the start of the month that the date you've selected falls in. In this case it's really easy to do. Add a field to your date dimension, [MonthStartDate], which holds, for every date in the table, the date of the start of the month it falls in. Now you can write a measure as follows:
SumQTY=SUM(FactQTY[QTY])
SumQTYTilStartOfMonth:=
CALCULATE(
[SumQTY]
;FILTER(
ALL(DimDateView)
;DimDateView[Date] < MIN(DimDateView[MonthStartDate])
)
)

How to calculate the percentage using date fields?

I want to calculate the percentages using date fields in my SSRS report.
I have two date fields :
eg I have 3 columns in my matrix
monthly target,
monthly completed and
percentage
Due date field count 10
completed date count 5
percentage 50%
for example
=Sum(Fields!Completeddate.Value)/Sum(Fields!duedate.Value)*100
however, this will not work for date fields.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance
The most straight-forward way to do this would be to add this field to your stored procedure (since it represents a column in your matrix) instead of trying to calculate it in SSRS.
Your SQL statement may look like this:
SELECT #CompletedDate, #DueDate, CAST(DateDiff(day, GetDate(), #CompletedDate) AS FLOAT)/CAST(DateDiff(day, GetDate(), #DueDate) AS FLOAT) * 100 AS INT) AS [Percentage]
The exact implementation will depend on how exactly you're using this value, but the point is that you can use the DateDiff() function to determine how many days apart two dates are, and with that information, you can find a percent difference. Once you've calculated this, you can assign it to a matrix column like you would any other value.
