Make game appear in game list - windows-phone

I wrote a windows phone game and currently I'm checking the check-list on MSDN. And since it's a game, I want it to appear in the games hub ant not in the application list. Do I only have to set it to "Game" when publishing in the store or can I write some code to archive that too?

You need to set Genre="apps.games" in the WMAppManifest.xml file instead of Genre="apps.normal" in the <App> element.
Try it out first on you own device!

You just have to set the category to "Game" when publishing the app. It will automatically appear in the game hub.

App name appears as Xcode project when downloaded but is different on app store

I recently released a new build of an app to the app store a bit ago. On iTunes connect I set the name which is displayed on the dashboard and in the app store, but when downloaded on a device, the name is the same as the original Xcode project on my computer. What is up with that? Is there something in the plist I need to change?
Many thanks.
AFAIK, you have to change the bundle name in info.plist. It's default is $(PRODUCT_NAME). And this product name is the one you put while creating the app in XCode at the beginning.
The App Store data is taken from the info you uploaded in iTunesConnect.
Also, if this varies widely then your app might got rejected. Check the guideline 3.4. About 2% of apps get rejected for this, check here.
The name that should be displayed on the device itself is defined on the plist in XCode in the Bundle Display Name field. The name that's displayed on the App Store is defined on iTunesConnect in the App Name field.
The two fields don't affect one another but they should be similar enough so that Apple's review team won't reject the app.

How to play sound from resources using windows media player?

I am making a game, so at one point I need to play two sounds at once, so I played the first one using the "My.Computer.Audio.Play()" Method to load from resources.
As for the second, I used Windows Media Player to load the second sound In A SPECIFIC FOLDER, now I know it is possible to extract files to a folder and program it to play from there to avoid trouble, but I don't want them to be extracted.
So I'm trying to get the file path from resources and put it in WMP's URL, but couldn't get any result after searching the internet.
Am I missing something?
And if you know any better alternative, make sure it can:
1- Replay sound (coding with timer is ok),
2- Change Sound Position
You can use the MediaPlayer class in code or MediaElement in XAML for playing audio files in a WPF application. Check out the article WPF Media Player In VB.NET for code samples.

Updating live tiles for windows phone 8 periodically

I need to update my application's tile periodically with the count the amount of inbox items. Anyone can give me a reference or relevant link to a example or tutorial? I get my data from a webservice. I went on google, and all the examples is on button click. I need one that does this automatically every few minutes/hours? This is for the windows phone 8 start screen of the phone.
thanks in advance!
This is probably the best tutorial I have seen for live tiles in wp8:
http://www.windowsphonegeek.com/articles/live-tiles-in-windows-phone-8-part-1-tile-templates
There are a couple of different ways you can do this. You can use Azure Mobile Services OR you can use a background process for your app to update the tile. You can find information here :

How do access native APIs with Sencha Touch?

If I wanted to create a mobile app that allows the user to take pictures with their phone, record audio notes and record video, how would I do that?
I was browsing through the Sencha Touch 2 API and while I see documentation on video and audio files, it seems like it is just providing a way for me to access files stored on the phone - not actual triggers to record, or take pictures.
Am I missing something?
How would I do what I want?
In order for Sencha Touch to have access to your phone capabilities, you need to use a product like Phone Gap
Unless there is a HTML5 api for doing those sorts of things I don't think you can do that. I know on PhoneGap there are native extensions added into that platform for access to things like microphone, camera, etc. I don't know if Sencha Touch has added any of those sorts of extensions in order for you do this.
Just thinking out of the box here, but you might be able to put Sencha javascript into a Web View from within an Android Java process. Then the Java code could expose an object in its process as an extension point to the Javascript engine for access to Camera, Microphone, what not.

Creating a image browser Boxee App

I am writing a Boxee App and I want to list all albums for a picasa account.
The problem I'm facing is that I have no idea of how to list albums and photos in the Boxee app.
The application itself should be fairly simple:
First a main screen where all your albums are listed, then when you click an album you see all your photos in a grid of say 4x5 photos
When you click a photo you go in to a view where one photo is displayed on the whole screen where back and forward lets users go back and forth in that gallery.
I have wrote a simple wrapper arround the gdata photos Python API which I was aiming to use so hopefully all the heavy lifting will be done by the gdata API.
Does anybody have some good links to example applications or tutorials to one or more of the features I want in the application?
Boxee uses an XML based approach for describing an application's interface. You'll need one XML for each screen of your application and you'll connect them together using the API.
You would build this XML screens using various controls defined by the XML API. Basically a control (a button, a list, a label, etc) is described as an XML node with attributes and child nodes. You can check a list of all the available controls here: http://developer.boxee.tv/UI_Controls
You can use the Python API to control various properties of the UI elements you coded in your XML files. For example you could fill a list with photos taken from a server, you could change the label on a button, load another screen and much more. Here are the Python API specs: http://developer.boxee.tv/Python_API
Make sure you read trough the Boxee dev pages and also remember that Boxee originated from the XBMC project so most of the documentation regarding XBMC skinning (http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=Skinning_XBMC) also applies to Boxee.
Another thing that might help you is looking at other apps. Find an app that is somehow similar to what you want to do, find it in Boxee's app folder and peek at the code there.
