I have recently installed Visual Studio 2012 Pro and noticed that I don't have the option to create ASP.Net MVC4 project.
Why is that?
I solved this by copying the folder WPT from the install iso to my desktop. In this folder there are four msi's
aspnetmvc3.msi
aspnetmvc3vs11tools.msi
aspnetmvc4.msi
aspnetmvc4vs11tools.msi
I uninstalled and reinstalled these in the listed order and started VS2012, the MVC templates then appeared in my new project dialog.
Not sure about 2012 Pro but for 2010 Express I needed to install it separately.

I tried to open a .Net Core solution which was working fine in 2015. Recently they added some .Net Core projects to the solution and asked us to upgrade to Visual Studio 2017 to be able to run them. We installed Visual Studio 2017 and tried to open the solution, but I am not able to build it. I get the following errors when I right-click and try to select "Manage Nuget packages".
I tried to open the PackageManager console from Tools: even this is not working
I also performed the "repair Visual Studio" process too.
Finally i resolved it by deleting my nuget.config both at project level and also in %appdata%/roaming/nuget .I think the issue is because of broken config file due to change from visual 2015 to visual studio 2017 .Not sure about the exact issue though
I recently installed Visual Studio 2017. I migrated the existing project which created in Visual Studio 2015. It got migrated without any errors. But when I build the solution I get 100+ errors stating Package [Microsoft.AspNetCore...] is not compatible with [netcoreapp...]
There are more than 100 items listed like this. I tried
renaming the sdk value in global.json
removing sdk value in global.json
repair, uninstall & reinstalling Visual Studio 2017. But none of them work.
I'm not sure where to add net451 in imports as explained here because the project.json file is deleted while migration.
The same project was working fine in Visual Studio 2015. All issues started after migrating to Visual Studio 2017.
Please let me know how to fix this error.
Due to your last comment I believe your problem is with the Nuget cache. I've seen this before where Nuget is pulling older packages after updating to .NET Core Tooling RTM and or VS 2017. To fix this run dotnet nuget locals --clear all. Then try creating a new .NET Core project.
You have to do this solution
open menu>project>'your project name'proprties...
in the opened window Application Tab change 'Target Framework' combo to '.Net Core 2.0'
now close the window and update again

I got a copy of a Visual Studio 2005 project from a friend. The project referenced the DLLs Microsoft.ReportViewer.Common and Microsoft.ReportViewer.WinForms. On my machine I have Visual Studio 2012. I upgraded the project. The references to these DLLs are broken, understandably, because they are Windows locations, not in the VS project. So, I want to delete the references and re-create, but I cannot find the DLLs on my machine. Do they not get installed with Visual Studio 2012? Can I download them?

Which explains the problem, the target .NET version of your project is 2.0. The ReportViewer included with VS2012 requires at least 3.5.
Fix it with Project + Properties, Application tab, Target Framework combobox. You'll then find the ReportViewer control back under the "Reporting" header in the toolbox.
These have been replaced by Report Server. Though if you'd copy them over from your VS2005 machine you should still be able to use them as binary references in your solution. You can download the binaries from the MSDN Download site.
Though there should be binaries for Visual Studio 2012 as well. I suspect they will get installed when you install the SQL Server Development tools, which include the SQL Server Reporting Server components.
You can try to use the Redistributable package for Visual Studio 2010.

Yes. Visual Studio 2010 and Visual Studio 6 will happily install side-by-side.
You can run multiple versions of Visual Studio on the same machine. I currently have VS2003, VS2005, VS2008 and VS2010 installed and am using all of them.
Where you may get into problems is with something like hooking up the older ones to TFS. This can be done, as I have VS2003 and VS2008 connected to TFS2010, but my VS2005 won't work as it whinges about the provider for some reason.
Another area to watch out for is IIS. As you have already installed VS2010, IIS may be defaulting to .Net 4.0 so if you start deploying .Net 2.0 apps then the websites may not work without some adjustment of things like app pools.
But if you are just using them independently of each other then you should be fine. If you're really paranoid, consider creating a VM and installing the old VS on it.

I see from your edited post that you were talking about VB6. This also can be installed alongside any of the later versions of Visual Studio.
On Windows 8 RTM and just installed Vs2012 Ultimate RTM, I'm unable to create a .net 4.5 project nor a .net 4 or 4.5 ASP.NET MVC project. I've done a repair of VS2012, which did not fix it. Is there something obvious I'm doing wrong?

Doing the following procedure solved it.
Copy the folder \packages\WPT from the visual studio 2012 installer CD to your desktop.
Uninstall the following in this order..
aspnetmvc4vs11tools.msi
aspnetmvc4.msi
aspnetmvc3vs11tools.msi
aspnetmvc3.msi
Then install these in this order.
aspnetmvc3.msi
aspnetmvc3vs11tools.msi
aspnetmvc4.msi
aspnetmvc4vs11tools.msi
Trying to repair didn't fix the problem. You have to remove and install these..

Your install is probably corrupted. VS 2012 needs .net 4.5 to run, so something has gone wrong if it's not available.
I would try uninstalling and reinstalling. It's brute force but it generally works.
You probably do not have the Windows 8.1 SDK installed. Visual Studio 2012, nor its updates, link the .NET Framwork 4.5 libraries for development.

You don't have to install the full SDK if you are just looking for the option to build web apps, just the .NET Framework 4.5.1 option in the installer. The full install is about 1.1GB, but just the .NET installer is only 72MB.
For those reading this that have not updated their copy of Visual Studio 2012, make sure you also have these installed:
Visual Studio 2012 Update 4
ASP.NET and Web Tools 2013.1 for Visual Studio 2012
