Can anybody help to understand how to connect from Visual C++ to SQL Server 2005?
i am developing an ISAPI dll using Visual C++ and i need to query the database to fetch a few details. I tried to connect to the DB using CDatabase. When I invoked the dll from a local system, it worked without any issues. But when i access the dll from a remote system, it's throwing Login failed for user NT AUTHORITY/ANONYMOUS LOGON.
What should I do?
This Accessing SQL Server from a Web Application article give you the list of options you can use for SQL Server authentication. You can change the Identity of ISAPI Extensions to meet the demand of SQL Server once you choose an SQL Server authentication method.

Suppose that I've created a project using MS SQL Server.
Now if somebody asks me to run my application on their brand new PC, should I install the entire SQL Server management studio on their computer? Or are there any other choices?
Please note that I just want to run my app (.exe template) not to debug it or anything else.
If your application is intended for standalone use on a PC, you can include the redistributable version of SQL Server Express in your installer. It's a limited but functional version of SQL server intended to be included with application programs like yours free of charge.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/sql-server/sql-server-editions-express
If your application program is designed for either shared or standalone use, and you have time to polish up your installer, you can ask your users whether they want to use a shared SQL Server instance. That will let you skip the installation of SQL Server Express when it's not necessary.
No they don't need SQL server or management studio , however they a database driver to access the server. ADO, ODBC and JDBC are the types of drivers you would look at. This depends on the language you wrote your application in and the connection string.
You clients would use the server's address and connect to it using the driver which is specified in a connection string. See the examples below:
.Net Framework Data Provider For SQL Server:
Server=myServerAddress;Database=myDataBase;User Id=myUsername;
Password=myPassword;
SQL Server Native Client 11.0 OLE DB Provider:
Provider=SQLNCLI11;Server=myServerAddress;Database=myDataBase;Uid=myUsername;
Pwd=myPassword;
If you application only connect to the database that you have a two-tier client server architecture. For the server to be reachable it needs to be on a network or network endpoint that the clients(people running your software) can see. The server needs to be on as well(your comments).
I have written an asp.net mvc application that is connected to a Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio database and I want to deploy the application to the webhosting server now. I have managed to get the published code onto the server easily. However, I want to ftp the database I created in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio to the server. Where are these created databases saved and is it possible to ftp the database to the server. The other issue is the web hosting server is using MS SQL Server Express is that a problem?
Normally shared hosts expect you to place the database in the App_Data folder and use it directly from there.
Here is a page to explain connecting to the database
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms247257.aspx
To find the database on your system open sql management studio right click the Database and click Properties on the Properties windows click on the Files section to show all associated files with your database.
I would recommend checking your providers documentaion though they might have specific requirments for database deployments
I have installed ASP .NET 2.0 MVC3, SQL server express 2005 and SQL server Management studio express 2005 and IIS 7 in my system. If I am opening the install_btnet file, and providing the SQL server details also it is not getting connect. It is giving error as Service unavailable. Any one suggest me how to install Bug tracker .NET tool in my system with examples.
Thank you.
First thing to check it that your SQL 2005 express instance is running and allowing remote connections. Open the Administrative Tools >> Services and look for the service called "MSSQLSERVER$SQLEXPRESS" and ensure it is started.
Next, open the SqlServer Configuration Utility (on the server or PC where SQL 2005 Express is Installed) Look for the Client Configuration Option and Select "Client Protocols".
Set TCP/IP to "Enabled" and you should now be able to connect to your SQL server.
Note that even if your BugTracker.NET install is on the same machine, it may still be using the network to connect to your SQL Instance.
Hope this helps,
Dave
I've installed Visual Web Developer 2010, SQL Server 2008 R2 and SQL Management Studio 2008, using the MS Web Platform Installer 2.0. But whenever I wanna login, with Windows Authentication, to SQL Server with the Sql Management Studio it throws me an error: Cannot connect to (local)
And then under that, it says that it can't find the server or it can't access it.
I used to use the Sql Management Studio 2005 before and I could connect easily. But with this version it seems there are some issues. Can someone help me, please? Thank you.
Check in the "SQL Server Configuration Manager" the instance is correct if you are trying to access.
If it is not the default instance, you must access by < computer_name >\< instance_name > (eg: MyComputer\SQLEXPRESS)
If still you do not connect, try the replace < computer_name > by "localhost" or "127.0.0.1"
Do you have multiple versions of SQL Server installed?
If so, you will need to specify the full instance name.
I am sorry if this sounds like a silly question, but I have googled for a while for a solution and no success. I am trying to establish a connection from VS 2008 to SQL Server. I am trying to use an user that my web application has been successfuly using to access the database from in its connection string. But when doing it from VS 2008, it tells me "Login failed for use 'xxxxxx'". I am currently in the "Add Connection" window. I have chosen the datasource and server name, fulfilled username and password for SQL Server Authentication. Do I have to set specific permissions for this user? Do I need to allow a VS 2008 user in SQL Server? Thanks.
I have found the solution for this problem. My Visual Studio would pull automatically something like MACHINENAME\SQLEXPRESS. As it was pulled automatically, I did not bother taking a closer look at it. I finally realized the connection string that worked for me in my other application was .\SQLESXPRESS. When I entered it in Visual Studio, it did work. Thank you all for the help.
Do you have SQL Server Management Studio Express Installed? if so try connecting as the same user through that interface. This will isolate your problem a bit.
With Visual Studio, you're connecting through a "remote" connection, even though they're on the same machine. With Server Management Studio, you're connecting through a named pipe probably. You need to change the SQL configuration so that it allows remote connections. Here are instructions for how to do it.
You can test your SQL connection by connecting using LINQPad, Often find this solves problems with connections to new SQL Server instances at my workplace.

Are you trying to specify the username and password to connect with in the connection string - ALA:
Data Source=myServerAddress;Initial Catalog=myDataBase;User Id=myUsername;Password=myPassword;
This actually uses SQL Authentication, not Integrated (Windows) authentication. What you might be looking for is this:
Data Source=myServerAddress;Initial Catalog=myDataBase;Trusted_Connection=True;
This would log into the database as the use running Visual Studio. Notice that the username/password aren't specified here - it uses the current Windows identity - in your case, that's the user running Visual Studio.
